The mining museum - a gold ore mill near Zlate Hory
On the way from the Zlaté Hory to Ondřejovice, lies the picturesque Valley of the Ztracených štol. Small river Olešnice here leaves narrowly cut into the valley and stretch over millions of years of stored gold in sediments. The local placers were mined surface and underground, so-called soft mining. It is interwoven with countless channels for supplying water to the placers. The main supply channel is still in operation. Geologists at these locations showed high levels of gold rising again. At a depth of approximately 5 m through exploratory shafts were discovered wooden mine work, probably one of the lost adits, hiding the gold-bearing veins. Speculation is also linking lost adits with 6 km long tunnel Tří králů, resulting in remote Polish Głuchołazy and clearly goes beyond Zlaté Hory station.
Currently, this romantic valley built a replica of medieval mining mills with an educational trail "Valley of the Lost galleries." The grinding plant will be shown crushing gold ore and with luck you can take home a little bit of gold . Both wooden machines, are made by contemporary drawings and are driven by water wheels, which draw energy from the original channel. The mountain character of the valley and standing water wheels in the cascade vertically to the slope creates enchanting corner. As if the time really stoped there. The nature trail will lead you to a place where "water runs uphill." Optical illusion is in place so strong that the viewer can hardly understand the art of the early prospectors.
Nature trail around gold ore mills will teach you about the origin and processing of gold. Simply look at the place where medieval miners dug pits in the rocks. And maybe you manage to see the mythical shepherd. He sometimes descends from Rejvíz forests to check out whether a person is treated with nature judiciously.
Valley of the Lost galleries, live its life today. There was the championship of the Czech Republic and Europe. Every year gold diggers are competing for the Gold pan of the city mayor. As it can be deduced the history didnt stoped here, but it lives on. On a small piece of land you will return to past times that were not always so carefree as today. It was a tough life here. But we are not going to reveal more. Come and see for yourself.
